The IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Workshop

This is the best kept secret in the field of electrical safety!" exclaimed an attendee at his first Electrical Safety Workshop. The IEEE Industry Applications Society Petroleum and Chemical Industry Committee created the Workshop in 1991 to provide a forum for people to meet and exchange ideas for preventing electrical accidents and injuries in the workplace. The Workshops have served to advance technology, establish best work practices and accelerate improvement in standards and regulations to reduce electrical incidents, prevent injuries, and reduce the economic impact of electrical accidents. They have linked professionals and centers of excellence in industry, engineering, government, and medicine. Participation has continued to grow and the technical program and exhibits have evolved to stay at the forefront of change impacting electrical safety. As a participant, you will be sharing experiences with engineers, electricians, scientists, safety professionals, risk managers, physicians, training professionals, and others all interested in accelerating progress in preventing electrical accidents and injuries.

Welcome to Dallas!

For our 15th Annual Workshop, we are returning to Dallas, the location of the first Workshop. In 1992, 35 people met at the DFW Airport Hilton to “change and advance the electrical safety culture” limiting progress in reducing workplace electrical injuries. In 2008, we are expecting more than 400 attendees, 30 speakers, and 50 speakers to continue our mission.

Workshop Mission

The mission of the IAS Electrical Safety Workshop is to:

  • Accelerate application of breakthrough improvements in human factors, technology and managing systems that reduce risk of electrical injuries,
  • Stimulate innovation in overcoming barriers, and
  • Change and advance the electrical safety culture to enable sustainable improvements in prevention of electrical accidents and injuries.

Strategies

To accomplish our mission, we will

  • Provide forums for sharing and disseminating ideas for preventing workplace injuries from electrical hazards,
  • Maintain an intimate, interactive environment, as a unique feature of the annual forum,
  • Engage multiple disciplines and professions,
  • Create collaboration and synergies among various centers of excellence.

The Value of this Workshop

The IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Workshop provides attendees an interactive learning experience on the state of the art in electrical safety. Through multi-disciplinary presentations and cross-functional dialogue about the opportunities and challenges in general industry and construction electrical work, a first time participant can take away tools to aid in prioritizing their enterprise's compliance with US and IEC electrical codes and standards.

Repeat participants know they can bring their tough questions to the 3-day program where experts and peers focus specifically on real world problems. You will be able to compare experience and practical applications with your counterparts in other companies and organizations. You will be interacting with experts who are leading change in codes, standards, regulations, and research aimed at preventing electrical accidents and injuries in the workplace. For those interested in continuing education credits, IEEE will award 2.0 CEU credits (20 PDH credits).

Information for Exhibitors & Sponsors

Introduction

The Workshop provides a unique venue for making the electrical community aware of your safety-related products and services. We encourage all exhibitors to attend the full Workshop in order to experience the latest technologies, listen to and better understand the problems encountered in the field, and hear the concerns of participants. This information is of great value in determining customer needs and wants, which can help in product design and marketing strategies. The face-to-face networking time available in between the workshop sessions offers each exhibitor the opportunity to reacquaint themselves with existing customers as well as develop new contacts and to share how their products and services benefit the industry. Each year the workshop has grown, largely due to the caliber of people that attend. At the end of the workshop all participants are given a printed attendees list. Most of the attendees are highly influential members of their organizations.

We entice all participants to visit all exhibitors on the exhibition night, by offering prizes that can only be won by participating in an exhibition drawing. Everyone is given a passport book. In order to qualify for prize drawings, every exhibitor must stamp the book. This ensures heavy traffic through your booth. While planning your budgets and your participation in this workshop, please consider offering one or more of your products, services or related items as prizes for participants.

Space is limited and will be reserved on a first come basis. Your early response will help make the Electrical Safety Workshop as successful as past workshops as it helps advise the planning committee on how to best draft the floor plan and layout.

As a five time participant in the Workshop, I would be more than happy to discuss the benefits of the Workshop with you at any time Since I am a salesman, I may share many of the same interests and concerns that you do.
Please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Exhibits Chair

Commercialism and Ethics Policy

Introduction

The IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Workshop is designed to bring people together from various perspectives, groups, enterprises, agencies, communities, societies and affiliations to address the mission of Changing the Electrical Safety Culture. In recognition of the diverse presentations and audiences, that are joined together by this effort, the IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Workshop must establish an open, respectful, and professional forum. This forum includes both the exchange of technical information independent of commercial issues, and the display of products and services that are commercial in nature.

Participation in the Workshop from all interested parties is essential. To this end, the participation of all interested parties, as long as it is appropriate, is not only welcome but is encouraged. This policy has been developed to protect the integrity of the Workshop, and to preventing any potential conflicts or compromises relating to Business Ethics, Commercialism, and/or Vendor Entertainment Etiquette. All associated with the Workshop are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with this policy.
