A meeting of the IEEE Buffalo Section Board was held at University At Buffalo Davis Hall, Room 113Y, in Amherst, NY, on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at 6:30 PM.

Chairís Note:

The scheduled Section Board meeting was held at a new location: Davis Hall Room 113Y.

Developments in the Buffalo Sectionís Balance Sheet:

The Treasurer reported on activity from last month.

A quarterly review will be presented at the April Section Board meeting.


Organizational Matters

By unanimous vote, funds were authorized to cover the balance due for IEEE Buffalo Student Branchís attendance of the Region 1 Student Conference. (Burke/DellíAnno)


By motion, the revised draft of the letterhead was approved for the Buffalo Section. (Henderson)


By motion, the new 5x5 climate controlled public storage was approved for the Buffalo Section equipment, electronic media and printed archives. (Ott)


The Chair reported on Region 1ís request for this yearís Buffalo Section membership development plans, and assignment of the Buffalo Section delegate for the Annual IEEE Sections Conference. (Koch/Loui)

This yearís Buffalo Section membership development plans include the following:

         Schedule more industrial applications presentations (Henderson)

         Offer discount on technical training courses for applicants who have a new IEEE membership (Moskal/Schweitzer/Mierzwa)

         Consult with WNY companies and align technical presentations with PDH requirements (Rhodes)

         Create IEEE membership benefits webinars (Henderson)

The Treasurer reported on Engineering Week at the Buffalo Museum of Science, February 16 - 22, and Mini Maker Faire, March 1. Engineering Week included an exhibit of KOM Automationís Baxter industrial robot. (Ott/Bates)


The Vice Chair reported on the upcoming IDETC Conference and the TSC Delegates Meeting, March 10. (Moskal)


The Chapter Chair of Microwave Theory & Techniques proposed the presentation of border patrol field engineering. (Gillette)

The Committee Chair of Advertisements reported on the monthly meeting of the new AICN Engineering Consultants Network, March 10. (Henderson/VonHeckler)


Committee Actions

The Chapter Chair of Power Systems requested advertisements and PDH for the upcoming Niagara Transformer Tour on April 23. (Rhoads/Moskal/Bates)

The Chapter Chair of Microwave Theory & Techniques requested advertisements for the upcoming Dresser-Rand Utility Scale Compressed Air Storage Presentation on April 3. (Gillette/Zirnheld)


It was agreed that the next meeting of the Board would be held at UB Davis Hall, [1] Room 230A, in Amherst, NY, on Thursday, April 17, 2014.

The meeting adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
