Maine Section IEEE History

Early in 1955, the Maine Subsection of the Lynn, Massachusetts, Section petitioned the AIEE (IEEEís predecessor, along with IRE) for full Section status. The Institute Board of Directors approved the Maine Section on June 30, 1955.

CMPís research services has archived the Section historical records (such as old Executive Committee minutes, meeting notices, and secretary and treasurer reports) of the Maine Section at the Farmingdale Historical site. These records are mostly complete (with a few gaps) back to about 1969. We have no records before 1969.

In the summer of 1975, the Maine Sectionís Communications Chapter was formed, apparently through the efforts of Bob Bishop. Also, the Maine Sectionís power engineering chapter was formed in 1965.
