Next Meeting: December 2, 2008

Topic:  " Revolutionary Impenetrable Security System (RISS)"

Speaker: Dr. Narayan Gehlot

Abstract: Existing security systems related to card, bank frauds and personal security are discussed and analyzed. Alternative solutions proposed and implemented in different countries are summarized. New ideas that could possibly revolutionize the security system implementation are presented. Industry and academia professionals will benefit from this presentation. It is hoped that doctorate and masters
student could possibly find dissertation topic and ideas for execution at the earliest.

Dr. Narayan Gehlot is a renowned leader in communications with over twenty- one (21) years of research and development experience in systems, board and chip design. He has worked in some of world's leading laboratories in telecommunications and computer networking such as Indian Institute of Technology, Madras , India ; Bellcore, Morristown , NJ ; AT&T Bell Laboratories, Holmdel , NJ and Lucent Technologies Bell Labs Holmdel, NJ. A
genuine innovator who has contributed to more than 51 (34 issued) patents WORLDWIDE in a wide range of technologies such as wired and wireless communications, fiber optics for FTTx, long haul, metro, intercontinental submarine systems, network management system, line monitoring systems, computer, internet, security, database, networks, vehicular technologies, Raman amplifier etc. Dr. Gehlot's patents have been cited in more than 211
issued patents.

Dr. Gehlot strongly believes ideas are the key assets to success whereas solution to a problem is only a matter of time. Dr. Gehlot\'s doctorate work created a breakthrough in passive optical network (PON) receiver design under the guidance of Dr. Robert Swartz at Bell Labs. He was a lead designer for a fiber optic submarine network spanning 35,000-km, 32 channels WDM with 640 Gb/s capacity at Bell Labs. He led the team that conducted experimental research on actual systems across Atlantic Ocean (TAT12/13) and Pacific Oceans (TPC5/6). This successfully introduced WDM on the world's first optically amplified ring networks to increase the system capacity from 5 Gb/s to 15 Gb/s. Dr. Gehlot as an entrepreneur helped raise letters of intent in excess of US $400 Million for innovative projects. He was Bell Labs founding researcher at University Multi-Media in Malaysia and University of Auckland in NZ at the behest of Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir, Lucent Technologies COO Mr. Ben Verwaayen; International sales President Mr. Mike Butcher and Lucent Technology Australia-NZ Head Mr. Phil Pryke. He is an outstanding researcher, innovator successful for collaborations with Universities and intellectual property business. He is bestowed with the unique ability of foresightedness to look ahead and plan. At Bell Labs Dr. Gehlot was honored as an "Outstanding Asian American for Lucent's Success" along with world-renowned researchers and 1998 Nobel Prize laureate Dr. Daniel Tsui. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and has keen interest on fundamentals of nature beyond science.
