Wind Generation Development

Len Fagan, VP Engineering, Energy Management Inc.

About the Presenter

Mr. Fagan is a mechanical engineer with over 35 years experience in the power generation field and is currently employed at Energy Management Inc as Vice president of Engineering.  He has been responsible for the engineering, design, project management, support of environmental permitting activities and developing major construction contracts for various energy generation projects utilizing natural gas, biomass and wind.

 Mr. Fagan has been recently involved in renewable energy projects utilizing wind turbines for both on shore and offshore installations and biomass.  Mr. Fagan is currently the chief engineering consultant responsible for the design, engineering and environmental studies for the Cape Wind Associates project in Nantucket Sound and the Nacogdoches Power biomass facility in Texas.

Mr. Fagan’s background prior to joining EMI includes managing several large international energy projects and has held key positions with equipment manufacturers in the steam and gas turbine industry.

Mr. Fagan has a BSME from Northeastern University and has completed advanced studies in physics and meteorology. 

About the Program

Mr. Fagan’s presentation is titled Energy, the Environment and Wind.  The presentation will address energy and environmental issues that affect our country and region today and will look at renewable energy as part of the solution. The primary renewable energy discussion will focus on wind power. Numerous technical aspects associated with the design of wind based generation projects will be discussed. Technical aspects that will be covered in Len’s discussion will include sitting, energy calculations, wind data collection, wind unit sizing and construction considerations, electrical interconnection issues and various other matters relating to the design of a wind generation project.

IEEE members and non-members are welcome to attend.  The visit is targeted for a broad technical audience. The Old Country Buffet is located at 1070 Iyanough Road (Festival Mall, Rt. 132)

From Providence, travel east on I-195 to Route 25 (Cape Cod), crossing over the Bourne Bridge. At the Bourne rotary, proceed 3/4 of the way around the rotary and exit at the sign pointing to Route 6 Eastbound. Follow this road North along the Cape Cod Canal to the first traffic signal. Turn right onto the "on" ramp to Route 6 Eastbound. Proceed East to Exit 6, Route 132, Hyannis. At the ramp, turn right and travel South on Route 132 approximately 2.4 miles. At the third light take a left into the Festival Plaza; the restaurant is on the far side on the center-left.
