Technical Director, Electrical Engineering
Location: Preferred is Washington, DC, but consideration given to Boston or Albany
Responsibilities:
· Provide technical leadership and mentorship of architectural and engineering staff across the firm’s three locations, advancing the overall technical quality of the work product.
· Lead goal setting, performance management, organizational development, and reward and recognition process for direct staff of 3 people (Albany, Boston, and Washington D.C). In addition, oversee indirect staff of 15-20 electrical engineers.
· Establish direction and vision for the electrical engineering services infrastructure consistent with corporate objectives. Thoroughly assess the needs of the business group and proactively recruit and develop the staff to support these objectives.
· Develop consistent firm standards regarding documentation, document formats, end-of-phase deliverables, CADD system standards, procedures for quality control, A/E integration and sustainable design.
· Partner with local Project Directors and technical staff to ensure the implementation of firm standards and procedures; technical quality of documents, details and specifications; code review and interpretations.
· Collaborate with local technical staff in order to ensure high quality project execution during construction.
· Encourage intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary communication and collaboration at all levels and at all project phases with other Technical Directors, Director of Architecture, Director of Engineering and Director of Project Delivery.
· Provide input on appropriate staffing assignments with regard to skills and career development, decisions regarding training, and compensation for the technical staff.
· Ensure suitable level of visibility is maintained at professional conferences and trade association events.
Specific qualifications include:
· Highly regarded consulting professional possessing a minimum of 15 years electrical design and engineering experience combined with at least 3-5 years leading, motivating and managing technical teams.
· Extensive knowledge of architecture and engineering principles and practices, including principles of sustainable design and construction.
· Licensed Engineer w/BS Degree in Engineering required.
· Extensive program & project management skills and possess an ability to multi-task in a multiple project and technically challenging environment.
· Ability and desire to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.
