Dear Future City committee members, judges, and supporters:
With two weeks before the close of registration for Future City 2009, the Capital District currently has 31 schools registered for this year's competition.
Of those register schools, five (5) are still in need of a mentor:
* Mountain View Academy, Johnsonsville - an alternative learning
program near Schagitcoke
* Hudson Middle School, Hudson
* Philip Livingston Magnet Academy, Albany
* LaSalle School, Albany - school for troubled youth's and wards of the
court. two-time participant and more teachers are getting involved, but
we have not heard from past mentor.
* Saratoga Catholic, Saratoga - last year's mentor is not
available.
-------
* Holy Names, Albany - an all-girls schools, they have a male mentor,
but would like a female co-mentor.
The first three (3) schools on the list, Mountain View Academy, Hudson Middle School, and Philip Livingston Academy have not participated before, and we have found that the retention and success rate for a school participating in Future City with mentor is significantly higher than a school that does not have a mentor.
A current Future City mentors recently told me, "I look forward to working with the students. They make what I do seem so more fun."
Would you please share this request and your experience participating in Future City with your co-workers, colleagues, and organization membership to help reach people who may be interested in working with students at these (or other) schools. The time commitment for a Future City mentor is about 2 to 4 hour per week (or every other week) and the meeting times are arranged directly with the schools.
Please have interested individuals contact me via email or phone (my information is below) so that we can exchange contact information with the teachers and start to develop the teacher/mentor teams.
If you or an interested mentor have any questions about mentoring, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for your assistance and continued support of Future City in
the Capital District.
Sincerely,
Kevin Powers, PE
