The IEEE Schenectady Section is a sponsor of this event and gives an award for Excellence in Generation and Conservation of Electrical Energy.
We are looking for volunteers to serve on the steering committee as well as volunteers to serve on the various subcommittees such as Teacher/Mentor Coordination, Judging, Technology, Publicity, Finance and Event (Day of) Logistics.
Mentors are required for each student team. This requires a commitment of about 3 hours/week for a couple of months in the fall, plus assisting the team during the competition.
The Steering Committee meetings last 1-2 hours are usually held monthly in Latham.
Future City is an interesting and challenging way to reach middle school students and raise their awareness of the possibility for careers in engineering and technology. Most of you know from first hand experience the level of enthusiasm that this competition inspires in the participants.
We need help to bring this successful event to more schools in 2005. Pass the word.
Mentors are needed at the following Capital District Area schools, and possibly others: St. Mary's Catholic School in Waterford St. Catherine's of Siena in Albany Shenendahowa schools in Clifton Park LaSalle Institute in Troy St. Stanislaus in Amsterdam Taconic Middle School
