CHAIRMAN'S COLUMN

Dear IEEE Bangalore Section Fellow Members,

Greetings to every one for being a member of IEEE and that too of Bangalore Section, the most vibrant and active Section in India. It is most appropriate for us to be proud of our achievements of the past, particularly the year 2003 when we successfully organized TENCON-2003. In the month of April, I participated in R10 AGM and made a presentation about TENCON-2003. The achievements of this successful event were highly appreciated by every one and in fact some of the participants had many queries about the event and even took the copy of the presentation material. In Region10 apparently along with Bangalore even the IEEE Bangalore Section also seems to be popular. It was a pleasant surprise for me when Bangalore GOLD Affinity Group was declared the best group in R10. On behalf of the group, I received the Best GOLD Affinity Group Award. The Gold Group members deserve Applauds and Congratulations from all of us.

In the past all societies and student branches worked very well. For this year we propose to organize an International Symposium On Microwave Electronics-christened as ISM-2004 from 1st-3rd September 2004, under the General Chairmanship of Prof. Selvarajan. M/s.COPEX will be organizing an International Microwave Electronics Exhibition on this occasion. It is proposed that in future both the symposium and the exhibitions will be held henceforth every alternate year. Besides this the Section will hold our Annual Symposium this time on Power Electronics. We are also going to have Prof. Kalyan Sen under DLT-Programme.

This year besides supporting and rejuvenating the existing student branches and society chapters, we are putting efforts to open new society chapters and student branches. We will also arrange technical lectures, tutorials, colloquiums and pursue our efforts to have good interaction with academic institutes, industries, sister professional societies, IEEE HQ, Region10 Sections and of course above all our members. We will help members to apply for up-gradation to SM & Fellow grades.

On behalf of the Section Executive Committee I invite all the members to participate whole-heartedly in our section’s activities.

With Best Wishes,

Dr. S. PAL

Chairman, IEEE Bangalore Section
