Speaker Bio:

Dr. Masood Ahmad was born and raised in Multan and graduated from the University of Engineering and Technology in Lahore, Pakistan in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. After briefly working for WAPDA, he continued his education at the Georgia Institute of Technology where he received Master of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1990 and Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering in 1993.

 

Between 1993 and 2002, he held various positions at different power companies including Manger Market Analysis at Mirant Corporation, a large IPP and consultant for Privatization Commission. During this time, he worked in the areas of electric utility planning, privatization and generation development/acquisition in US, Turkey, Australia and South America including privatization of Kot Addu Plant in Pakistan and acquisition of 9700 MW of generation assets in the US Midwest for about $4 Billion.

 

Dr. Ahmad joined Dominion Resources Inc., one of the largest integrated energy companies in the US, in May of 2002 as a Manager,  Transaction Structuring. He has held various positions in business planning, market analysis, hedging, asset management and acquisition. In his current position as the Director Integrated Planning, he is responsible for developing long term plans for the company.

 

In his 20 plus years in this profession, Dr. Ahmad has been a keen student of the energy markets. Though engineer by training, he is more involved in the business and politics of energy as opposed to the technological developments. He is fascinated by the complex dynamics of business and politics that drive technological innovation in this industry. Dr. Ahmad has testified, given various presentations in the US and taught short courses in UK, Spain and Austria.
