"The World Digital Library (WDL) project's web site www.wdl.org  went live on April 23, 2009. It's goal is provide web based access to priceless artifacts housed by organizations around the globe.  These artifacts include books, maps, pictures, rare documents, stone drawings; the span the entire human time span. The project was initiated by UNESCO and the Library of Congress (LOC) in the U.S was given the task of building the web site and inject the content. Dr. Sohail Aslam has been part of the development team for the past one year. He will give an overview of the web site and then present the details of how the site was built and launched. One salient feature of the site is that it is built entirely using  open source software. Dr. Sohail Aslam will conclude with recommendations for web development that developers will find useful in their own work."
