Kanpur is well-connected with most other cities of India by Rail and Roads. It lies as one of the most important railway stations on Delhi-Howrah Trunk Line of Indian Railways.

Map of India showing the location of Kanpur

IIT Kanpur is located alongside the Grand Trunk Road (Calcutta to New Delhi) nearly 16kms away from the Kanpur central railway station.

How to reach IIT Kanpur from Kanpur Central Railway Station

Taxis are easily available from the Cantt side of the Kanpur Central Railway Station (take the exit from Platform No. 1 side). The rates are about Rs. 180 for a taxi, and Rs. 100 for an auto. The time taken to come from Kanpur Central station to the IIT campus is about 40 minutes.

Once you reach IIT Kanpur main gate, your auto/taxi driver will be asked to make a vehicle pass to be made to enter into the campus; you need to mention at this point where you need to go (VH or Hall-V or GH1). Once your vehicle is allowed into the campus, please ask the driver to proceed directly to the appropriate location.
