The National Capital Area consists of the IEEE Northern Virginia Section and the IEEE Washington Section.

The two sections sponsor a number of joint activities including workshops and an annual awards banquet, share an administrative manager, host a virtual community, and publish the Scanner and eScanner to publicize events and communicate with members.
