A Letter of Invitation to Members of the Power & Energy Society and Industry Applications Society Joint Chapter of the Pittsburgh Section
Our purpose is to provide to our members the opportunity to enhance their careers by providing Technical presentations, Continuing Education classes, Tutorials, Lectures on Current Events, and Social Meetings.
The PES/IAS Joint Chapter has been very active since its revival in 2003 when we had 2 Tutorials and 4 Technical Presentations. The next year, 2004, the Chapter won the PES Outstanding Large Chapter Award with 30 programs making us the best PES chapter in the world. In 2005, 2006, 2007, we had 12, 13 and 8 events respectively. In 2006, we partnered with Penn State University to provide at a greatly reduced cost a 26 week Fundamentals of Engineering Review Course that prepared students for the EIT Exam. A 26 week Professional Review Course was also provided for preparation for the PE Exam.
In 2008, we hosted the PES General Meeting in Pittsburgh that had the largest attendance to date. There were 20 programs presented during 2008 that include a Tutorial on Power Quality at Eaton’s Power Quality Lab, a Tour of the Power Quality Lab at Eaton, an all-day workshop on Career Survival put on by the IEEE-USA Career & Workforce Policy Committee and IEEE-USA Employment and Career Services Committee, and many other important topics.
All of this is done by volunteers like you. Since 2003, there has been a core of 10 people that make this all happen. We need new blood to keep this Chapter the best chapter in the world. You, too can be part of this World Class Chapter by contacting Mey Sen at senml@ieee.org. |
