A Letter of Invitation to Members of the Power & Energy Society and Industry Applications Society Joint Chapter of the Pittsburgh Section

 

Our purpose is to provide to our members the opportunity to enhance their careers by providing Technical presentations, Continuing Education classes, Tutorials, Lectures on Current Events, and Social Meetings. 

 

The PES/IAS Joint Chapter has been very active since its revival in 2003 when we had 2 Tutorials and 4 Technical Presentations.  The next year, 2004, the Chapter won the PES Outstanding Large Chapter Award making us the best PES chapter in the world.  In the following six years, we had 12, 13, 8, 20,18 and 12 events respectively.  In 2006, we partnered with Penn State University to provide at a greatly reduced cost a 26 week Fundamentals of Engineering Review Course that prepared students for the EIT Exam and a 26 week Professional Review Course was also provided for preparation for the PE Exam.

 

In 2008, The PES Chapter hosted the PES General Meeting in Pittsburgh that had the largest attendance to date.  The Chapter won the Outstanding Large Chapter Award for its activities in 2008 and also won the second place award for membership growth.  A special commemorative award, PES 125th Anniversary Award, was also received.  This award was given to three large and three small chapters among 200 chapters that showed superior performance in the last 10 years.  In the last 4 out of 5 years, our PES/IAS Joint Chapter website was placed as one of the top three websites in the world.

 

Every year, our Chapter gives an Outstanding Engineer Award to a worthy local volunteer.  Please consider nominating someone that you know.  All of this is done by volunteers like you.  We need new blood to keep this Chapter rolling as one of the best chapters in the world.  Keeping up with the past, we are planning to have a superb program in 2012.  We need speakers and hosts to run our programs.  To see how to run a meeting, Click Here.  We invite you to come forward and take part in this World Class Chapter by contacting David Vaglia at davevaglia@ieee.org.
