May 2013
Section Meeting
Please
join us this Tuesday May 14 for a presentation by Dr. Wook Jun Nam on
the application of nanostructures to improve the efficiency of
solar cells. Nano-scale structures or elements have high potential to
achieve (1) better light
management to minimize reflection and trap light in the absorber
material and (2) more effective carrier collection management to
harvest all photo-generated carriers produced in the absorber. Novel
device architectures utilizing these sub-wavelength features will be
introduced and the game-changing impact of applying these
nano-scalephotonics
to solar cells will be discussed.
Dr. Wook Jun Nam is a Research Associate in the Center for Nanotechnology Education and Utilization (CNEU) at the Pennsylvania State University. Before he joined to CNEU, Dr. Nam served as the Research Director at Solarity LLC, a start-up company located in State College, PA. Dr. Nam holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Materials Engineering from Sungkyunkwan University, Seoul, Korea, and a Ph.D. in Engineering Science from the Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Nam has an extensive experience and knowledge base in the research areas of nano- and micro-scale devices including chemical and biological sensor, opto-electronic, and electronic structures. He has led teams as a principal investigator for several research projects. He holds several patents and is author of a number of research articles in the field of nanotechnology.
