August Meeting
The Central Georgia IEEE August meeting was a presentation on the proposed Flint Energies sponsored economic development innovator lab. The lab is a few months away from operation and would be the first publicly available lab in Georgia. Maker/inventor labs have proliferated in recent years. The labs are a combination of machine shop and computer lab, providing tools and support to the public for custom design and manufacture. Dubbed the Crowd Source Innovations initiative, the focus is to identify and encourage the public to develop ideas in a free flowing, open source environment. This initiative aims at identifying and fostering a network to monetize inventions and identify market places for innovations. When it is up and running, the Flint Energies lab will have a 3-D printer, laser cutters and automated milling machines. Our host was Jay Flesher, Manager of Community Development at Flint Energies in Warner Robins. Mr Flesher presented the lab proposal with a potential building layout. We met at the Flint Energies Member Center located at 98 Carl Vinson Parkway in Warner Robins (near the intersection of Russell Parkway and Houston Lake Road) at 6:27 PM. Thanks go to Jake Hopkins for setting up this meeting. Afterward, we had dinner at Ole Times Country Buffet.

We are meeting in Warner Robins this time!
"For many years we have strived to slay the "great white buffalo" when it came to economic development in our community. No one got excited unless a big corporate name investing $20-30 million dollars appeared. What if our "great white buffalo" was not one company, but the individuals who are great innovators already in our community? The Crowd Source Innovations initiative is focused on identifying and encouraging our most powerful resources, the highly educated, diverse work force, to come out of their extra bedrooms, garages, and workshops in order to develop their ideas in a free flowing, open source environment. This initiative also aims at identifying and fostering a network of those that understand how to monetize innovation and identify the market places for those innovations." Jay Flesher, who is the Manager of Community Development at Flint Energies in Warner Robins, will be showing us his presentation and sharing with the group what has been accomplished.
