Central Georgia IEEE Section 2015 Meeting History

Astronics Lunch and Learn at MERC on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, 10 AM - 2 PM
Astronics Test Systems and Southern Marketing Associates (SMA) hosted a "Lunch and Learn" seminar / session on Tuesday, July 7th at the MERC facility in Warner Robins. The seminar covered the ATS 3000 series Radio Test Sets, the WIT "Wire Integrity Tester," Freedom Series ATE digital test system,T940 Digital Cards (Teradyne Spectrum L2/L3 series replacement/updgrade), and TPS Software development and rehost tools.
The seminar was free. Lunch was provided.
Reservations were through Dennis Brockway/Cell (478) 213-5262 or dbrockway@smainc.net.
Thanks go to SMA and Mark Swann of the Dixie Crows.

Dixie Crows Counterfeit Component Workshop was at the MERC Auditorium in Waner Robins on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, 1 PM to 4 PM
The Dixie Crows sponsored a seminar on counterfeit electronic parts. The presenter was Henry Livingston, Engineering Fellow and Technical Director for BAE Electronic Systems. The presentation will be at MERC on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, 1 PM - 4 PM. The Association of Old Crows is the industry trade group for electronic warfare. The local chapter is known as the Dixie Crows and was chartered in 1968 with 15 members, now the organization has 350 military, DoD civilian, industry and academia representatives. The organization works to preserve, promote and advance electronic warfare technology in the defense of our nation.
Thanks go to Mark Swann and Karen Brignance, both of the Dixie Crows for information on this seminar.

July Meeting
Our July meeting was a follow on Linux presentation by John Mathieson. We met on Tuesday, the 28th of July at 6:30 PM in the Georgia Power training room on Key Street in Macon GA.
John Mathieson presented, "Linux: A Solution Looking for a Problem." John last spoke to us in February 2009 on linux. The presentation is still on our website here. and was one of our most heavily attended meetings. Linux has great potential and there is a fair bit of emotion attached to this operating system.
Mr Mathieson is an electronics engineer in Warner Robins.
Thanks go to Marco Reyes for this meeting suggestion.
June Meeting
Our June meeting was on the 23rd. It was a presentation on Software Defined Synthetic Instruments. Mr. Robert Wade Lowdermilk is Chief Technology Officer of RADX Technologies, Inc., a high technology start up focusing on the development of next generation Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) Software-Defined Synthetic Instruments (SDSIs). Wade is an industry recognized expert in Synthetic Instrumentation and Software Defined Radio technology. Prior to RADX, Wade was a Scientific and Engineering Fellow at BAE Systems and an adjunct professor at San Diego State University. Software Defined Synthetic Instruments (SDSIs) synthesize RF and Microwave T&M Instruments (spectrum analyzers, signal generators, etc.) on top of modular, PXI-based COTS hardware and software. The latest generation of SDSIs can replace multiple "box instruments" with a single, integrated, multi-function system. Because one SDSI replaces multiple box instruments, SDSIs can also significantly reduce the Size, Weight and Power (SWaP) footprint of the required T&M equipment suite. Also, SDSIs accrue substantial advantages in technology insertion, upgradeability, obsolescence management and test program portability-all of which result in performance improvement and cost reduction. This presentation will include hands on demonstrations of RADX's LibertyGT 1211B and the LibertyGT 1310B SDSI.
Thanks go to Chair Larry Adams for setting up this meeting.
We met at 6:30 at the Georgia Power training room on Key Street in Macon GA. The training room is on the south side of the Georgia Power building.

April Meeting
Our April meeting was presetiona meeting start time will be 6 PM, tomorrow. The April IEEE meeting was on Tuesday, the 21st of April, at 6 PM at the Mercer University Science and Engineering Building Auditorium (SEB110) in Macon GA. The Mercer engineering student team presented their robot hardware competition entry from the recent IEEE southeastern conference (SoutheastCon) in West Palm Beach FL. The robot competition called for both hardware and software creativity, with engineering schools in the southeast competing. These little bots navigated to four locations and wrote IEEE on a etch-a-sketch, turned a Rubics cube, played Simon, and picked up some cards from a deck. This was a great meeting to bring someone who is interested in science & engineering.
We had dinner afterwards at Loco's Deli on Riverside Drive in Macon GA.
Thanks go to Dr Donald Ekong for arranging this presentation

April Meeting The April meeting was a presentation of the Mercer Robot for the IEEE SoutheastCon student competition. Both the software and hardware competition entries were presented. Mercer students, presented us their entry. We met on the 8th of April in the Mercer Science and Engineering Building auditorium. The students presented their computer code and hardware.
Thanks go to Dr Donald Ekong for arranging this presentation.

The IEEE Southerneastern Conference (IEEE SoutheastCon) was the first weekend in April. The conference was in West Palm Beach FL. New Chair Larry Adams, Treasurer Curtis Lee, and new Secretary Micahael Ivey from the Central Georgia section attended this annual conference.

March Meeting The Central Georgia section started the year with an Executive Committee (ExCom) meeting on Tuesday, March 2015, at the Perry GA Red Lobster. The coming year's leadership and presentation programs were discussed.

March Meeting The March IEEE meeting was a trip to the Dixie Crows exhibits on Tuesday, the 24th of March. This 40th anniversary symposium was at the Robins Museum of Aviation Century of Flight building. The theme was "The Power of EW & ISR for Sustained Air Supremacy." Thanks go to Dixie Crows Chair Lisa Fruge-Cirilli for inviting us to attend. The Association of Old Crows is the industry trade group for electronic warfare. The Dixie Crows chapter was chartered in 1968 with 15 members, now the organization has 350 military, DoD civilian, industry and academia representatives. The organization works to preserve, promote and advance electronic warfare technology in the defense of our nation.

2015 Officers The 2015 slate of officers for the IEEE Central Georgia section was prepared and submitted. The leadership slate was confirmed at the June meeting.
Thanks to our leadership for your continued service.

Future Meeting We will have a meeting for a presentation on programmable logic controllers by Keith Houston of Engleside Electric. Macon Tech has created a lab learning environment and we hope to get a tour later in the year.
Thanks go to Marco Reyes for information on this presentation.
