Mr. Carroll will give a presentation on the theory of load side issues like reflected waves, common mode noise, and cable charging currents.  Along with case studies, he will provide solutions for each issue.  His primary emphasis will be power quality issues common to all drive manufacturers' Pulse Width Modulaton (PWM) drives.  He will explain the physical causes of the issues and the wiring and grounding techniques to minimize the effects.

Meeting Location: This meeting will be at: America's Best Value Inn which is located on Washington Rd near I-20.
 
Directions to the Inn are: drive down Washington Road out of Augusta towards I-20.  After you go under the I-20 overpass, there will be 2 stoplights. At the corner of the second light is a RACEWAY gas station, on the right.  (Across the street from the Dunkin Donuts.) The America's Best Value Inn is immediately after the gas station. 
 
DO NOT turn at the light since that goes to the frontage road.
 


Chris  Connell has been working with AC and DC drives for over 31 years.  In 1987 he joined Rockwell Automation and has worked for them ever since.  For the first eleven years he was a field service engineer , traveling around the world commissioning drive systems  and fixing  problems.  For the last ten years he managed the Drives and Power Business  for Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.



The South Carolina Council of the IEEE has been working to create a web site that will support the professional and career needs of electrical engineers based in our state.
