Job Title: On-Site Engineer-NEBS
Huntsville, AL (Cummings Research Park)
Job Summary:
The On-Site Engineer will work at the manufacturer's facility to
evaluate the conformance of products to standards, generate reports,
and communicate with clients.
Essential Duties:
1. Conduct and witness on-site evaluations of products to determine
compliance with applicable NEBS standard(s). To do this, the On-Site
Engineer must:
a. Read and interpret test standards.
b. Perform and/or witness evaluations to GR-1089-CORE sections
4,5,6,7,8,9,10; GR-63-CORE sections 2, 4.1, 4.2.3, 4.3, 4.4, 4.6, 4.7
and GR 487 all sections.
c. Follow established test plan.
d. Configure and set up EUT (equipment under test).
2. Identify, configure, and operate the equipment such as lightning
surge generator, power fault equipment, environmental chambers,
vibration machines, spectrum analyzers, Transmission impairment
measurement systems, line simulators, traffic load generator, office
simulators, channel banks, signal generator, basic rate ISDN terminal
adapter, protocol analyzers, meters, fiber transmissions systems,
FireBERD (bit error rate detection equipment),T-BERD and selective
level meter. Use common hand tools and identify equipment problems.
3. Assess product lines to determine if product similarities can be
utilized to eliminate testing.
4. Compile test results, data, and product description before and
during testing. Type final report using established report shell.
Submit report to reviewer for final approval.
5. Correspond with customers via email, telephone and face to face.
Provide customer with knowledge and expertise. First line contact with
customers regarding project status, product pass/fail and possible
product modifications.
6. Maintain detailed daily information records including all project
notes, modifications and results.
7. Manage evaluation projects within project schedule and time
constraints. Advise manager/client of potential interruptions to
schedule. Work within team to coordinate larger projects.
General Requirements:
B.S. degree/technical field and
0-1 years directly related experience
OR
A.S. degree/technical field and
4-6 years of increasingly responsible directly
related experience
Reasoning and Decision Making Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete
variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written,
oral, diagram, or schedule format. Ability to make technical decisions
and engineering judgments with supervisory approval.
Travel Requirements: average under 10%
