IEEE Region 3 Employment Assistance Project.

A Web site was developed to bring together into one location the best sources of career planning, current job openings and information about companies that may be hiring. IEEE Computer Society Distance Learning Program.

More than forty new online courses were available through the IEEE Computer Society Distance Learning Program. The courses began in August 2003, and were available free to members of the IEEE Computer Society. Online books were also available to members. JANUARY

  • The Excom of the Jamaica Section met on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at the NWC, MIS Department, 2a Manhattan Rd, Kingston 5. Matters discussed were: Section objectives, ComSoc objectives, Computer Society objectives, topics for monthly meeting presentations and the annual social function.

FEBRUARY

  • The annual social function of the Jamaica Section was held on Friday, February 6, 2004 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. All IEEE members were invited to attend the function.

MARCH

  • SoutheastCon 2004. The UTech Student Branch of the IEEE attended and participated in the student contests at SoutheastCon 2004.

APRIL

  • An Excom meeting was held Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at the NWC, 2a Manhattan Rd, Kingston 5.

MAY

  • The Jamaica Section presentation for May was - Jamaica's First Next Generation Network. The presenter was Mr Andrew Fazio, V.P Sales & Marketing, Merit Communications, Ltd. The venue was the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, Knutsford Blvd. The presentation on Wednesday May 19, 2004, included: 1) NOC Facility, 2) Metro Ethernet & Fibre Infrastructure, 3) benefits to Jamaica, and 4) a question and answer session.



JUNE

  • Executive Committee meeting.

JULY

  • Executive Committee meeting. A presentation on Network/Information Security (Simulated Attack & Response), - at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, Knutsford Blvd on Wednesday, July 21, 2004. The meeting commenced at 6:00pm. The presenters were: Karlington Williams (Information Security Engineer), Krishna Phillips (IP Network Design & Security Management), Michael Sutherland (Information Security Engineer), and Shauneil James (Information Security Manager.

    The presenters are members of the information technology industry who have been involved with network and information security management for over three years, with experience in policy management, perimeter defense, content management, malware management, patch management, incident handling, and security awareness.


AUGUST

  • Executive Committee meeting. Section meeting cancelled due to severe weather (Hurricane Charley).

SEPTEMBER

  • Executive Committee meeting. Section meeting cancelled due to severe weather (Hurricane Ivan).

OCTOBER

  • Executive Committee meeting. Presentation on the Science of Technical Pronunciation by Mrs Kesi Asher, Producer/Presenter - Roots Radio 96 .1 FM.

NOVEMBER

  • Executive Committee meeting. The presentation at the Jamaica Section monthly meeting on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 was: Bringing Touchscreen Technology to Market and Opinion Pooling Surveys. The presenter was John W. Williams of TouchPoll Jamaica. The meeting was held at Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, Knutsford Blvd and commenced at 6:00pm.

DECEMBER

  • The Annual General Meetiog of the Jamaica Section was held Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. The Executive Committee for 2005 was elected.
