JANUARY

  • The Jamaica Section held a retreat to plan activities for the year 2006 on Sunday, January 15, at the National Water Commission, 2a Manhattan Rd, Kingston 5.

FEBRUARY

  • A tour of the Jamaica Network Access Point (JNAP) on the 15th February, at the Miphone Building, on 30 Knutsford Boulevard, Kingston 5 was arranged by the Jamaica Section. Mr Brian Shaw, Business Development Manager for JNAP, led the tour.

MARCH

  • Messers, Francisco Leal & Miguel Reis, electrical engineers, GE GEVISA Factory, gave a presentation on Motors and Variable Frequency Drives at the monthly meeting of the Jamaica Section on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at 6:00pm. The venue was the Faculty Conference Room at the School of Engineering, University of Technology, Jamaica, 237 Old Hope Rd Kingston 6.

    The Jamaica Section's Annual Social was held at Gloria's Top Shop , Port Royal, on Saturday, March 18, 2006.


APRIL

  • An overview and tour of Flow Broadband Network was given by the company on Wednesdaay 19, at its facility on 24-26 Grenada Crescent, Kingston 5.

MAY

  • Mr Gregory Peake, Snr GPS specialist - Spatial Innovation Ltd, gave a lecture on Geodetic GPS networks in the caribbean at the monthly meeting of the Jamaica Section on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at 6:00pm. The venue was the Faculty Conference Room at the School of Engineering, University of Technology, Jamaica..

JUNE

  • Mr Basil Davidson, Managing Director, D-Gen Engineering Ltd gave an overview of Emergency Telecommunications, to introduce attendees at the monthly meeting on 21 June 2006, to the pros and cons of various telecommunications methods that may be used in a disaster scenario. The venue was the Faculty Conference Room at the School of Engineering, University of Technology, Jamaica

JULY

  • Dr Damith Wickeramanayake of the University of Technology gave a presentation entitled:Broadband Over Power Lines:Is this a viable solution for Jamaica? at the Faculty Conference Room of the School of Engineering, University of Technology, Jamaica, on Wednesday, July 19, 2006.

AUGUST

  • " Using a secure SHA1 GPRS technology to provide mobile out-patient care in Jamaica " is the topic for presentation at the Faculty Conference Room of the School of Engineering, University of Technology, Jamaica, on Wednesday, August 16, 2006. The presenter will be Mr Sean Thorpe, Project Supervisor. The meeting is scheduled to commence at 6:00pm.

SEPTEMBER

  • An Investigation of Radio Frequency Identification Technology: A Technical Overview, was the topic presented at IEEE Jamaica Section's monthly meeting in the Faculty Conference Room of the School of Engineering, University of Technology,Jamaica, on Wednesday, September 2006. The presenter was Vanesa Tennant - Graduate student at UTech.

OCTOBER

  • A Project Management Seminar was held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, Knutsford Blvd, on Friday, October 20, 2006 commencing at 4:30pm. The presenter was Dr Tarek Lahdhiri, inernationally acclaimed IEEE speaker.The seminar was organized for the professional development of members of the IEEE Jamaica Section. Non-members were also invited to attend. The cost of the seminar was J$ 2,500.00 for non-members, and free for members.

NOVEMBER

  • Dr Halden Morris demonstrated techniques for giving a Power Point presentation.

DECEMBER

  • Annual General Meeting 2006.
