Reservations: If you are planning to attend
this monthly meeting, please make reservations with the NWF IEEE Secretary,
Doug Cross, either via email or
by telephone at (850) 332-7900 ext. 105. IEEE and ASQ members will both
register with Doug Cross.
Welcome and thank you for visiting the IEEE NWF Section. We hope you are having a relaxing and enjoyable
summer. A summer filled with visiting family, friends,
sightseeing and taking children to places where they enrich their knowledge
and gain valuable experiences in life.
After
this summer, once the children are back in school, we encourage you to
enrich your engineering and problem solving skills and improve your
professional standing in today’s competitive workplace. While accomplishing this well-deserved
task, also help us celebrate the
Electromagnetic Quarter in NWF during this fall.
We are planning to provide engineering problem solving help during
September, October and November about electromagnetic effects in general
and electromagnetic compatibility in particular. These hours of attendance will also count
as continuing education units/professional development hours (CEUs/PDHs)
for those Professional Engineers who need them to maintain their currency
and proficiency.
At
the IEEE NWF Section, we will wrap up this calendar year with a non
technical meeting and elections during December.
Electromagnetic Quarter in NWF will explore current understanding about the
principles, effects, solutions, and test techniques of electromagnetic
interference (EMI), intentional electromagnetic interference (IEMI), and
electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in a tutorial manner. The highlight of this featured event is
that emphasis is placed on understanding the principles and problem
solving.
Electromagnetic Quarter in NWF will cover the following three (3) topics:
1. Is Electromagnetic Compatibility Important? A Case
Study of an RF Communication System, (September 09, 2008, 17:30-19:00)
2. Principles of Intentional Electromagnetic
Interference, its effects, and Test Techniques, (October 07, 2008,
17:30-19:00)
3. Understanding and Solving EMI/EMC Issues in an
Electromagnetic-rich Environment, (November 04, 2008, 17:30-19:00)
Each
session will include sufficient time for questions and answers.
During
each meeting refreshments and snacks will be provided by the IEEE NWF
Section. There is no fee for the
current IEEE members and their guests.
Come join us. Learn and
enrich your knowledge & understanding about electromagnetic effects
in a relaxed, professional &
educational environment.

Chair, IEEE NWF Section
Speaker Information:
Maqsood A. Mohammed received M.S. and Ph.D.
in electrical engineering from Oklahoma
University. Dr. Mohammed is currently a Technical
Fellow in Electromagnetic (EM) Effects and Directed Energy at Jacobs Technology,
where he has been a member of the technical staff for 20 years. Prior to joining Sverdrup, he worked in
process control, medical instrumentation, and computer peripherals
industries. He has also taught
undergraduate courses in electrical engineering as an adjunct faculty
member and advised graduate research work.
Dr. Mohammed has developed numerous one-of-a-kind solutions to
complicated electromagnetic problems.
His experience includes various commercial, DoD, and NASA
systems. His expertise also includes
independent verification and validation (IV&V) of EM effects modeling
and simulation (M&S) tools.
Dr. Mohammed has been active in the IEEE EMC Society
since 1991. He has also been active
at the regional level, including as the NW Florida Section Chair. In 1992 he conceived and led the EMC
fundamentals tutorial workshop and nurtured it to become the most-attended
workshop at the IEEE EMC-S Annual Symposium. During his tenure as Chair of the EMC-S
Education and Student Activities Committee (1998-2006), he introduced
several new programs such as EMC Fundamentals Tutorial, Student Paper
Contest, Student Design Contest, Symposium Experiment Hardware and Software
(M&S) Demonstrations, University Grant program, and Tutorial Videos. Dr. Mohammed’s long, dedicated and
exceptional service to the EMC-S community was recognized by the EMC-S
Board and he was awarded the prestigious first ever “Sustained Service to
the EMC Society Award” in 2007.
Due to
geographical diversity of our membership IEEE NWF Section will begin
meetings
in Pensacola in addition to the current Fort Walton Beach location. For details please
contact jeff.miller@theactigraph.com
or contact him at (850) 332-7900.
Very Best,
Maqsood Mohammed

Northwest Florida IEEE Women In Engineering Affinity Group.
The
NWF WIE Affinity Group has met the requirements of the IEEE Regional
Activities Board Operations Manual and has been officially formed. The
effective date of the IEEE WIE Affinity Group’s formation is 25 September
2006. The WIE meets prior to the IEEE Section Meeting. Meetings begin at
5:00 PM. At these meetings, local members in the science and engineering
field and those that have an interest in promoting the field of science and
engineering come together to discuss issues and activities of common
interest. For more information, please contact Betty Carden at 217-5407, or bettycarden@cox.net
The
WIE sponsored a presentation entitled “Diversity as a Necessity in
Effective Engineering” on October 19th, 2006 provided by Bonnie
Kempke, a senior software engineer for DRS Training & Control Systems,
Inc. To view Bonnie’s presentation, please contact the IEEE Webmaster at nwf_webmaster@ieee.org.
