of City of Lake Worth Power Plant
If you have
driven on I95 in Lake Worth and noticed the
large complex of buildings east of the
Interstate, this is the opportunity to tour the
City of Lake Worth Power Plant. The plant is
owned and operated by the City and is unique in
the Palm Beach area. This will be a walking
tour; dress casually and wear comfortable shoes.
Depending
upon interest, there will be dinner after the
tour in downtown Lake Worth at TooJay's
restaurant.

From I95, exit
at 6th Ave South (Exit 63) and drive east and
turn left at S "A" St. Drive one block to
Sunrise St and turn
left.
Drive one
block and turn right. Street has no name. Drive
to Stop sign, turn left and drive straight to
gate. Use telephone to call for entry. Look for
IEEE sign(s ).
From western
areas, drive on Melaleuca Ln east until it
becomes 6th Ave South and follow as
above.
From
Florida's Turnpike, exit at Lake Worth Rd (Exit
93) and drive east. Turn right (going south) at
Congress Ave. Turn left (going east on 6th Ave
South and follow as above in first
directions.

PROJECT LEAD THE
WAY
This is a pre-engineering program for high school
students interested in studying engineering at college.

The new Palm Beach Central High School on Forest Hill
Blvd is implementing this program. Engineers and technicians
are be asked to volunteer for the Advisory Board. They are
also being sought to act as mentors for the students. There
is also a program at Lincoln HS in Martin
County.

CONDOLENCES
It is with regret that the Section announces the
sudden passing away of Dr. Ray Bendett. Ray served as Chair
of the Communications Society for the past few years and
attended many of our meetings.
He will be missed. Condolences to his
wife.

STUDENT
BRANCH
The section congratulates the new officers of the
student branch at Florida Atlantic University. Success to
those who have moved to other
endeavors.

FOURTH OF JULY
GET-TOGETHER
One of our members, Laura Michaels, is hosting a pot
luck dinner for IEEE members.
Local Mensa club members are also attending. It will
be on July 4, from 5 PM to 7:30 PM in Delray
Beach.

TECHNICAL
SEMINAR
Florida West Coast section is presenting a technical
seminar. It is titled, "NFPA 70E
Electric Safety Requirements for Employee Workplaces and
IEEE 1584 Guide for Performing Arc Flash Hazard
Calculations."
It is on Thursday May 29, starting at 8:00
AM.
Four professional development hours (PDH). will be
awarded.
