MEETING NOTICE-ULTRAWIDE BAND LECTURE

What:

Lecture
Joint with Signal Processing Society and FAU Student Branch
Sponsored by FAU Department of Electrical Engineering

Topic:

"Ultrawide Band"
Modern Ultrawide Band (UWB) has been in existence since the 1940-1960 radar era and there has been a surge of interest and invention since the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) legalization of UWB emissions. UWB can optimize combinations of precision communications at high data rates, low power and low cost. We show some examples of throughput for UWB in comparison to much higher power 802.11a/b systems. The future makes possible delivery of location-specific content, tracking of high value assets and various automotive and home based "location awareness" capabilities.

Who:

Kai Siwiak
The lecturer is CEO of TimeDerivative, Inc., a consulting firm in Florida. He is an invited international guest lecturer on satellite communications, RF safety, and ultrawide band technology. He is a P. E. in Florida and Senior Member of the IEEE. Dr Siwiak has a BSEE and MSEE from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and a PhD from FAU. He holds 70 patents and has published extensively.

SENIOR MEMBERS
The section is developing a core group of Senior Members, Fellows and Honorary Members who will act as references for current members who are interested in being given Senior Grade Membership. The plan is to receive the candidates information and have the officers pass it on to the reference members. They will review and determine qualified candidates and then pass to IEEE for further processing. As soon as the section finalizes the reference core group, the names of the candidates will be sent. It is now anticipated that this will be done by e-mail for initial contact. At some later date, the section will call a meeting/reception for face to face contact. The core group will also function for future candidacy.
If you are from either party, please send an email to the
section e-mail address.

LIFE MEMBERS
The section is surveying Life Members seeking interest in forming an IEEE affinity group. E-mails are being sent to potential group members and if there is enough response, a group will be started. Officers would be elected and activities would be planned. The section will offer support. Life Members Tony Jamroz and Ed Wolff are leading the effort to contact LM's. If you know of any LM's who do not have e-mail, please let them know.
Send an e-mail to the
section e-mail address
