"ZigBee
Wireless Technology
Standard"
Zigbee (IEEE 802.15.4) is an emerging wireless
standard for very low cost, low power connectivity
technology for applications that require only
modest data throughput. ZigBee networks are ad hoc
and are self-organizing and self-maintaining. They
are capable of multi-hop routing and messages can
be relayed across networks of several hundred
devices. This presentation will review the
technical features, including RF specifications and
architecture.

IEEE
PALM BEACH COMMUNICATIONS SOCIETY
|
What:
|
Wireless-Cellular
Voice Standards
Code
Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology for
cellular voice communications was introduced
commercially in the U.S. in the 1990's, with the
IS-95 standard. Since then, new standards have
evolved from IS-95, such as IS-2000 and IS-856.
IS-2000 is being developed by Qualcomm CDMA
Technologies as a third generation (3G) digital air
interface technology as a proposed standard for the
CDMA industry. This lecture will overview the
latest developments in IS-856, the standard for the
1xEVolution (1xEVDO) component of CDMA
2000.
Qualcomm
is a leader in digital wireless communications
products.

SOCIETIES
IEEE has 38 societies for those members who want to meet and
communicate with those in the same specialized areas of
technical interest. Currently, the section has the
Communications, Computer, Power Engineering, Signal
Processing and Life Member chapters. Any member can initiate
the process to form a society.
Only six member signatures on a petition are needed. In the
past, there has been interest in an Engineering Management,
Solid Circuits and Reliability chapters being formed. The
section and Region 3 encourage any member to contact the
section to initiate this process. Support and communications
will be provided for any interest if starting a chapter.
Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD), Women in Engineering
(WIE) and Consultants Network are also affinity groups that
can organize and become active. Send an email to the section
email address.

e
EDITORS CORNER
Martha
Stewart and Engineering
The communications channels are full of bleak picture for
employment of US engineers. We read about outsourcing, off
shoring, immigration policies such as H1B and L1. These are
small issues compared to what the government is doing in the
Martha Stewart case. Martha Stewart was a hard working,
business oriented in a mans world who became very
successful in her own businesses. This made her a target of
those who were jealous of her success and wanted to see her
fall. What she did, insider trading, may be illegal but the
government decided to make a huge public case of her. This
is decidedly against business.
What does it have to do with engineering?
Well, if an engineer decides to start a business or want to
work for one, him or her would have to be aware the success
is not rewarded in America but punished.
America needs to foster a pro-business attitude, good for
all including engineers.

AND
FINALLY
It is so expensive, you may have to read the manual.
