MEETING MINUTES

A. Old Business

Meeting minutes from February meeting have been posted. Meeting minutes from August have not been posted. Richard has the action to send to Lee for posting.

B. New Business

1. Proffesional Development Documentation

  • Michael asked for information on any IEEE process for documenting participation in IEEE events to support professional development credit. Michael will raise at the EXComm meeting tomorrow and report back. We will be looking for examples, but perhaps sections can document locally.

2. Treasurer Update

  • Account funds continue to grow, albeit slowly, with a balance of $4,523.80. (Note that Council funds are in the Concentrated Banking Program.

  • Richard asked if there had ever been any plans for Council funds. Apparently there has not been any, but there were never relevant funds prior to recent SECon’s held in the state. Need to consider if an investment and expenditure strategy is needed.

  • Richard will review options for investing funds such as short term CDs and report back with any recommendations.

3. Membership Development

  • Discussion on Membership Development deferred until a later meeting.

4. Adminstrative Discussion

  • Michael asked if attendees to Council meetings can be reimbursed for transportation (mileage) costs. Richard and Brent to research and Brent to advise of results. Need to consider the fact that participants meals are provided with Council funds.

  • Speakers continue to be a problem for both the Savannah and Coastal sections. Distinguished lecturers are available from IEEE but are very difficult to obtain a specific speaker due to scheduling conflicts. Many do not charge a fee.

5. Savannah River Section Status

  • Michael advised Savannah has monthly meetings with 10-15 attendees on average. The September meeting was a joint meeting with ISA that included a speaker from Beldon cable. They are pushing membership and senior membership activities and have tried to partner with the Augusta Technical school on meetings.

6. Upcoming Meetings

  • Region III ExCom Teleconference is tomorrow at 9:00pm.

  • Region III ExCom meetings are in Atlanta 27-29 October with Steve Carroll and Michael Rollins attending..

  • The next Council meeting will be a teleconference on Tuesday, 30 January, 2007.
