Special notice from the Chair of the
Winston-Salem Life Member Affinity Group
Dear Fellow IEEE Life Members:
I just want to introduce myself. My name is Bob Hardy and I have been designated Chair of the Winston-Salem Life
Member Affinity Group. I moved to W-S from Schenectady NY in November 2005 and shortly thereafter I joined the
W-S Section.
I spent most of my engineering career with General Electric, first with the Space Division, and finally with the
Corporate Research and Development Center (Now GE Global Research) in Schenectady NY. Since leaving GE I have
counseled small businesses in USA, Russia, Ukraine and China. I was a volunteer counselor and chaired the SCORE
(Service Corps of Retired Executives) Albany NY Chapter. Currently I serve on the board of W-S Sister Cities
Program and chair the Shanghai-Yangpu Committee. We didn't have an IEEE Life Member Group in Schenectady, so
I'm new to the operation of the Life Member Group.
I know a few Life Members from the W-S Section meetings, but many I don't know. I will say that the W-S Section meetings
have been extremely interesting, and our leadership has been doing a fantastic job in continuing to bring in
interesting speakers on a variety of high tech subjects. We are fortunate to have a mix of active participants.
For example, we had a presentation in May on robotics in medicine.
We will not be meeting for the months of June and July. We will start again on August 27 with a tour of the Corning
Fiber Optics Plant.
I would like to encourage Life Members to participate in the Section's activities. There may be some other requirements
or us to remain an active Life Member Affinity Group. I'll find out what they are and let you know. For now, please
let me hear from you and give me your suggestions for an active Group.
Best regards,
Bob Hardy |

PLEASE RENEW YOUR IEEE MEMBERSHIP FOR 2008:
The IEEE Membership Terminator was run on March 3, 2008. As a result 39 of
our members have been removed from our active membership roster. This means
that these folks no longer can take advantage of the benefits provided to
members of the world's largest professional organization. If you have
forgotten what those benefits are click on "Membership Benefits" in left hand navigation bar.
The good news is that it is not to late to renew your membership for 2008.
