The Domes
Experience a desert oasis, a tropical jungle and a Whoville Holiday all in one evening!
Come to the deserts of Africa, Madagascar, South America and North America in the Arid Dome where one of the world's finest collections of cacti, succulents, shrubs and arid-land bulbs grow. An Oasis of Pampas Grass and desert palms beckons as paths lead you past many plant oddities with intriguing geometric forms, subtle coloration and unique adaptations to hot, dry habitats.
Stroll the jungle-like trails of the Tropical Dome and see a rich diversity of plants from the rainforests of five continents. Showy flowers, fruits, nuts, spices and a multitude of orchids and bromeliads surround you as you're drawn toward a rushing waterfall in this paradise. Be sure to look for the colorful birds and iguanas that call the Tropical Dome their home.
Enjoy the holiday season when you join all the Whos down in Whoville gathered to celebrate the season, encircled by thousands of poinsettias in the Show Dome.

Essential Change Made in IEEE Milwaukee Section / Chapter Meeting
Format
In the first year of the true next millennium, 2001, the IEEE Milwaukee Section/Chapter meetings will undergo a complete metamorphosis.
In the first year of the true next millennium, 2001, the IEEE Milwaukee Section/Chapter meetings will undergo a complete metamorphosis. No longer will there be six or seven hour-long Chapter meetings and an hour-long dinner speaker. The meetings will not be held at night, nor will the meetings be held at the local universities, except for the student meeting. Dwindling attendance over the past several years has sent a wake up call to the Executive Board and changes will be made.
The IEEE Section and Chapters will still continue to sponsor the student meeting, traditionally held in April. However, the Section/Chapters next year will sponsor two half day programs with a format and time that we believe will better suit the lifestyles of today’s membership. The exact details are still under discussion, but the new structure will be somewhat like the following:
- An optional one hour lunch at noon with a 15-20 minute address from a keynote speaker.
-
The main programs running from 1:00 PM until 4:30 PM that will offer Continuing Education (CE) credits.
-
The main program will consist of a combination of different Chapters’ sponsored short courses, tutorials, or panel discussions. Each Chapter program will run concurrently with the other Chapter programs in two, one and a half hour segments, with a 20 minute refreshment break in between segments.
-
Vendor table/booth display areas purchased by vendors and available for viewing after lunch/prior to the programs, at the breaks, and after the programs.
-
The programs will be held in March and November and will be presented during the workweek, probably Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
These programs will be designed to provide the membership with continuing educational and informational opportunities that should appeal to the members and their employers who would need to provide time during the week for the member to attend. There will be a nominal fee for the program and an addition charge if attending the lunch. Vendors will be able to purchase space to exhibit their wares/services during the lunch and programs. Vendors who purchase space will have their names announced in the program advertising brochure.
A descriptive brochure will be mailed about two months before the Section event. It will contain details of the programs offered and a registration form and instructions for registration. Advance payment will be required. The IEEE Informer newsletter will continue to be published as necessary. However, please bookmark the local Milwaukee Section web page (www.ewh.ieee.org/r4/milwaukee) on your internet browser and check there for the latest Section information.
The IEEE Milwaukee Section will continue to offer tours when appropriate, and it will host a yearly social event meeting. Chapters may elect to organize there own meetings apart from the programs in March and November. Your involvement, whether it is planning, presenting, purchasing vendor space, or attending the programs, is encouraged.
