Featured Speaker

Dr. Allan Greenwood

Dr. Greenwood has Bachelor and Master degrees from Cambridge University and a Ph.D. from the University of Leeds.

After service in the Royal Navy during World War II he spent time in British industry, then taught for seven years at the Universities of Leeds and Toronto. In 1955 he joined the Power Transmission division of the General Electric Co. where he held successive positions as senior research engineer, consulting engineer and senior consulting engineer. He came to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in1972 as head of the Electric Power Engineering operation until 1987. As Philip Sporn Professor of Engineering, he continues to teach and conduct research in the department. Prof. Greenwood is an active consultant to industry in the areas of his expertise. He was elected Fellow of IEEE in 1969 and Life Fellow in 1996, he received the Edison Electric Institute's Power Educator in 1986, and the Attwood Award of CIGRE in 1988. He holds over 80 US and foreign patents, has authored or co-authored four books, and has many technical and scientific papers. He is very active in CIGRE, especially in the affairs of Study Committee 13. He has served as Vice President of the US National Committee of CIGRE.
