University of Wisconsin Synchrotron Radiation Center Tour
March 20, 2004
The Milwaukee IEEE will be hosting a tour of the University of Wisconsin Synchrotron Radiation Center on March 20 2004. It is home to Aladdin, one of
the most powerful sources of far ultraviolet radiation in the world. Few know that such a national facility is located in Wisconsin. Its on US 51
about 10 miles south of central Madison. It's a major source of intense far ultraviolet light for use in nano technology, material studies, and chip
manufacturing research. This is a chance to tour the main ring area as it operates and see what is happening at the cutting edge of
nanotechnology. This is an excellent tour for both physics and engineering students to see
this state of the art synchrotron facility right in our own back yard. A link to the centers web site can be found at http://www.src.wisc.edu/.
The tour is limited to 14 people and is on a first come first serve basis. The
tour at the center itself is at 10:00 AM but we will meet up at the Georkes Corners Park and Ride, located at the south west corner of Bluemound road
and Barker road in the town of Brookfield at 8:45 AM. This is where I-94 and Bluemound Road cross. The IEEE will reimburse drivers carrying several
passengers other then themselves at the IRS rate for mileage to and from Georkes corners. Tour participants are also free to go directly to the SRC
for the 10:00AM tour but still must pre-register.
Tour participants must pre-register with Brian Cunningham at 414-475-2164 or e-mail him at brian.cunningham@siemens.com
to go. There is no charge but since space is limited you must pre-register.
