Abstract |
The San Antonio Fire Department is faced with many telecommunications challenges for its public safety first responders. The challenges start with being spread over a large geographic area (412 sq. miles), working with multiple agencies, and serving the 7th largest US metropolitan population (US Census-2008). SAFD is implementing new systems to tackle its needs, including computer aided dispatching, replacing legacy analog radios with P25 digital communications, integrating with other voice, video, and data networks, and moving into and sharing new frequency bands. Representatives from the SAFD Technical Services Division will present the current fire telecommunications system architecture, highlight key features, and discuss lesions learned and issues that remain. |
