Bio: Steve Hopwood is a Senior Engineer employed by Syfer Technology Ltd, Norwich, UK, a leading manufacturer of multi-layer ceramic capacitors. He has been actively involved in low pass filter design and specification for commercial and military applications for over 23 years, and has presented this technology worldwide, most recently at EMC/China 2009 in Shanghai. He has been involved in some of the major developments in ceramic filter technology, such as the development of high capacitance surface mount filters and the introduction of planar capacitor arrays for filtered connectors. Recently, his work on stress relief through product design and solder alloy choice has yielded benefits in filter reliability by protecting the ceramic element from induced cracks. His input to the EU RoHS directive has resulted in the introduction of an exemption relating to ceramic discoidals and he remains a stakeholder as the directive moves towards the release of RoHS2. |
