Welcome to the New Orleans Engineering in Medicine and Biology Chapter
The IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS)
is the world's largest international society of
Biomedical Engineers. With more than 46 percent of
its 8,200 members residing in some 70 countries
outside the US, it's a truly global organization. The
membership is heavily slanted towards basic and
applied research, with 52 percent of the members
working in academic institutions. The Society
publishes 7 flagship publications:
IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Magazine
Transactions in Biomedical Engineering
Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine
Transactions on Medical Imaging
Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering
Transactions on NanoBioscience
Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems.
In New Orleans, most EMBS members work at Tulane and LSU Medical Schools, and in the Tulane School of Science and Engineering. There are 150 undergraduate Biomedical Engineering students at Tulane, and 35 graduate students pursuing advanced degrees. The EMBS Chapter has flourished within the New Orleans Section for nearly 25 years, and its members are proud to be a part of the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology.
