New Orleans Section Previous Chair Messages
August 2009 Chair's Message
In 2009, we have seen many new opportunity for the New Orleans Section to
move in a positive direction. Many efforts have been made to improve our section.
Notable accomplishments including independent chapter and affinity group operations,
increased technical programs, increased utilization of the distinguished lecturer program
(DLP) provided by the technical societies of IEEE, increased presentation of short
courses and symposium activities, increased corporate participation, and increased
financial support from IEEE USA, IEEE Professional Activities Committees for
Engineers (PACE), and IEEE technical societies.
Selfless dedication by our volunteers is essential to the success of the Section. The
individuals who have willingly contributed their time to the Executive Committee and the
chapter and group operations deserve our gratitude for their time and efforts.
Two members have recently volunteered to work as co-chairs for the “Graduates of
the Last Decade” (GOLD) program and to endure through the 2010 term. They are Ms.
Lori Toups and Mr. Gary Martin. We commend them, and will of course lend them as
much guidance and assistance as possible to aid in the success of their endeavor.
The 2009 goal for the Section has been to stimulate member participation through
further improved programs as mentioned above, and up to now, we have been very
successful in spite of obstacles encountered.
As a member, you have a stake in your section, and your participation and input
is tantamount to its success. Your help is needed to improve your section. Ideas and
suggestions for improving the section are welcome, and active participation in section,
chapters, and affinity groups functions is strongly encouraged. Please make a
professional commitment to get more involved in your IEEE. You will benefit from the
educational programs, enjoy camaraderie with engineers and others, and gain exposure to
invaluable professional resources.
Thanks you for being a part of the IEEE New Orleans Section.

July 2009 Chair's Message
Dear IEEE New Orleans Section Members,
As chair of the IEEE New Orleans Section for 2008
and 2009, one of my goals was to modernize the
sections website. This goal has nearly reached
fruition due to one of the new volunteers in the
section, Mr. Tom Field, our current Web-Master.
Please change your web browser to the new URL which
is:
http://ewh.ieee.org/r5/new_orleans/
Please browse the website, I am confident you will
find it comprehensive and useful. If you choose to,
please send any useful links that you would like to
suggest be to added, or suggestions for improvement
to the webmaster using the link at the bottom of
each webpage. If you have any pictures of New
Orleans that you would like to see on a webpage,
please send them to the webmaster and they will be
reviewed for content and may be used to replace an
existing picture.
It is through the voluntary efforts of each of our
members that our section improves. Please be a part
in helping the section to grow and improve in the
future. This is your section and the future of the
section is up to each one of you to determine.
Another new volunteer in the section, Mr. Aaron
Davis, has been doing an outstanding job in getting
the section newsletter out on time with the
information submitted by the different chapters and
affinity groups within the section. He has a lot of
good ideas for improvement that will be implemented
over time.
I would like to thank all of those that have been
working so hard to improve the section. Please join
them in helping to make the section better for all
of the members in our area. Thank you
Sincerely,

Stephen D. Bourg
