Solid State Drive Firmware Development Engineer/Colorado                  

 

 

As an SSD Firmware Development Engineer at this international corporation, you will develop high-performance controller firmware for Solid State Drives based on NAND Flash memory products. In this position, you will assist in evaluating, designing, and building firmware for new high-performance mass storage controllers that will optimize performance, endurance and reliability for the target markets. You can expect to work closely with fellow firmware engineers, system hardware design engineers, product engineers, Flash memory design engineers, and production engineers to solve cross-functional design issues.

 

Responsibilities for this position include development of structured source code targeting the embedded environment associated with Solid State Drives. Additionally, you will verify design using a variety of verification methods, including simulation, FPGA prototyping, and product testing. Your focus will also be on firmware quality in the system and the target application. As needed, you will develop new test tools and methods. Using analysis equipment or software, you will demonstrate the effective analysis of functional or performance issues with the firmware and hardware in test environments or target host systems.

 

 

 

 

 

Successful candidates for this position will have:

  • Two or more years of relevant industry experience in embedded firmware development.
  • Proficiency in firmware design using assembly and C programming.
  • Knowledge of mass storage systems (hard disk), Flash memory, and device drivers (preferred).
  • Knowledge of mass storage interfaces such as SATA & SAS
  • Proficiency in debugging in an embedded firmware application.
  • Proficiency in using development tool chains targeted for embedded processors
  • Experience in test equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic/bus analyzers are optional, but desired.
  • The ability to analyze complex firmware and hardware issues.
  • A high level of skill in problem recreation and trapping.
  • A high level of skill in identifying performance critical algorithms for optimization.
  • The ability to find creative solutions to difficult problems.
  • A working knowledge of digital hardware design is optional, but highly desired.

Solid State Drive  Product Engineer

 

As a Product Engineer at this international Corporation within the SSD product group, you will be responsible for taking solid state drives from design to high volume manufacturing. This will involve circuit design & debug, firmware validation, compliance testing, performance characterization and customer support. You will also be responsible for improving performance, improving testability, and identifying NAND ( flash Memory) reliability issues.  Other areas of responsibility include electrical and physical failure analysis, implementation of new device qualifications, characterization development, and yield evaluation/improvement. You may modify and/or develop test programs and firmware microcode.  This role may present future opportunities for Product Leader or Group Leader positions.   

 

Qualifications 

 

Successful candidates for this position will have:

 

  • 3 or more years of embedded system Engineering experience with an emphasis on storage interfaces (preferred).
  • The ability to drive engineering efforts through all aspects of new product development and system level debug.
  • Programming experience in C, PERL, and JAVA.
  • Familiarity with Windows, Linux and Mac OS.
  • A thorough understanding of NAND and DRAM operation.
  • Experience using the following tools: PC based benchmarking tools, logic analyzers, bus analyzers, Digital Scopes, NextTest test platforms, or other ATE (a plus). 
  • Experience with various device evaluation platforms and other bench tools. 
  • Good communication, leadership, problem solving skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of storage interface standards such as USB, SATA, SAS, PCIe, and Fibre Channel.
  • Microcontroller knowledge, ARM 9 or equivalent
  • The ability to work and maintain good relationships with world wide controller suppliers.
  • Some knowledge of error detection/correction algorithms.
  • Knowledge of various memory technologies including nonvolatile and DRAM with emphasis on NAND flash.
  • Some understanding of microcontroller firmware. 

 

Education:

Minimum of a BS in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related discipline and experience.

EE Design Engineer - Colorado Springs
Senior Electrical engineer working as member of a small engineering
department responsible for design, prototyping, testing and taking a
complete Electrical System to production.
Someone with a strong
theoretically background and the ability to apply that knowledge into a
practical design.  Experienced with power circuit design principles, thermal
and temperature implications, PWM control, circuit board layout, and EMC
considerations in the design of both digital and analog micro-controller
based systems.  Must have hands-on experience with electronic
troubleshooting. Someone experienced in taking lead role in all aspects of
design and testing of all components of a system. Able to mentor Jr.
Engineers and work with technicians. Generate efficient, cost conscious
designs based on readily available components

Someone who is comfortable with all aspects of the design and development
process and either completes all tasks themselves or finds out who will be
making that part happen and follow-up to make sure it does. Design and
implement circuitry. The control circuitry is designed using Microchip's PIC
family of microcontrollers. The majority of the circuitry uses CMOS logic
devices with some analog interfacing. Implemented 1-Wire networks to
communicate status of various components needed for proper sign operation.
Interface with mechanical and software engineering groups to insure all the
requirements in the customer specifications are being achieved. Provide
production support at all levels to insure the final product meets and or
exceeds the customer's expectations. Write documentation explaining the
operations and maintenance of the products being manufactured.
