Description: Understanding protective relaying is the key to designing safe, reliable, secure, and selectively coordinated electric power systems. Many engineers in our industry lack a thorough understanding of how to properly select and size current transformers (CTs). Improper selection of CTs can lead to misoperation of relays that could impact safety and reliability. This seminar will provide a foundation for understanding CTs and their applications.

Power Transformers are the key building blocks for all power systems. They serve the purpose of stepping up or down voltage for efficient transfer and utilization of power. Electric motors are everywhere in the world around us. Electric motors are used in pumps, compressors, conveyors, etc. This seminar will examine the various failure modes that are encountered in the application of transformers and motors as well discuss methods of how to properly protect transformers and motors via the use of a variety of protective relay schemes.
