Welcome to the IEEE TISP of Phoenix, Arizona!
The major emphasis of the TISP program is a set of project-based modules (70+ lesson plans at www.tryengineering.org) with each plan structured around a particular engineering topic such as electric motors, structure loads, irrigation, or machine design. Each lesson plan utilizes STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) principles through a practical project completed by the students that complies with National and Arizona Science Standards, Grades 4-12.
Engineers In the Classroom (EIC) Subprogram
The Phoenix Section of the IEEE provides volunteer engineers for in-classroom support to science teachers throughout the Phoenix metro area - the Engineers In The Classroom subprogram, TISP/EIC.
Lesson plans currently fully provisioned include one Elementary (Basic Electricity) and four Middle School (Sail Away, Working With Watermills, All About Electric Motors, and Here Comes The Sun). Up to six new Elementary and Middle School projects will be added during 2010 as schools request them; High School projects will be added later. Each Elementary School lesson plan typically takes one to two 45 minute periods, and each Middle School plan four 45 minute periods.
