The IEEE Reliability Society has entered into an agreement with the ASQ Reliability Division to jointly sponsor the Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) examination which has been developed and offered by the ASQ for many years. The new certification, to be called the ASQ/IEEE CRE will be a collaborative effort of both of our societies. We will work with the ASQ to develop and maintain the CRE Body of Knowledge (BOK) as well as the examination questions. We will also share costs and revenues. We will be offering the exam at our conferences whenever possible and our members will receive the same member discount on exam fees that current ASQ members receive.
As mentioned we will be participating in the technical development of the BOK and examination materials. This effort is performed by various committees comprised of Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) selected from the ASQ Reliability Division and IEEE RS. The attached file contains a description of all the workshops involved in the process. The first workshop, the Job Analysis Workshop, will be held in Milwaukee August 8th and 9th. We are looking for people who are technically expert in one or more of the reliability areas, comfortable in working in a facilitated group setting, and interested in improving the certification process for Reliability Engineers. If you are interested send your resume to the undersigned by June 22nd, 2008. If selected, all reasonable expenses including coach fare with two week advance purchase for participating in the workshop(s) will be paid by the IEEE RS. As this is a new endeavor for the IEEE RS you do not have to hold a current CRE certification to participate.
This is an exciting new direction for our society and we need your participation to make it successful. Not only will you gain the satisfaction of development the certification requirements for our discipline you will be working with some of the best reliability engineers in the world.
