This position will be responsible for working closely with product development teams to support the proactive design of high reliability vehicles and subsystems. In addition, the reactive element of this position will include tracking and management of failure analysis and driving corrective actions for reliability risks identified.

·       Responsibilities:
The successful candidate for this position must have a broad technical background with the ability to work with marketing, engineering, service, manufacturing and suppliers to lead reliability activities for product development.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships within Tesla and outside.
Develop vehicle level reliability goals based on analysis of target market, benchmark of competitors vehicles and warranty cost considerations.
Allocate subsystem level reliability requirements to assure system goal is achieved.
Support the development of Failure Modes & Effects Analyses (FMEAs) for development teams to identify critical risks to be addressed.
Support reliability & warranty cost modeling to provide proactive feedback to development teams.
Work with service organization to develop service strategies in support of reliability goals for the vehicle.
Develop reliability test plans to improve the robustness of the vehicle and to assure reliability goals can be achieved. Consult with design teams on the use of HALT, HASS, DVT, Functional and ALT type testing.
Participate in design reviews to assure product subsystem reliability considerations are being addressed.
Manage and facilitate the failure analysis process to assure root cause is identified for product failures.

Position Summary:

The PLC Reliability Engineer is responsible for reliability testing and failure analysis of chips in Infinera's Planar Lightwave Circuit department. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the telecom-grade reliability of PLCs, driving ongoing reliability improvement activities and implementing screens and surveillance programs to achieve the same. He or she will also be responsible for driving failure mode analysis, root cause determination, and corrective action.

  • Initiate accelerated reliability life-tests to quantify expected failure rates of PLC chips, and to demonstrate adherence to Telcordia and other quality standards
  • Execute failure mode analyses on returned and failed PLC chips. Determine root cause of failures and drive implementation of corrective actions.
  • Track returns and assure documentation and timely internal and customer reporting meeting department and corporate standards
  • Maintain FMEA log documenting PLC failure modes. Support development of a comprehensive PLC reliability model
