Group Delay of Analog filters Analog filters are generally used in this digital world as anti-aliasing filters before A-D converters and reconstruction filters following D-A converters. Analog filters, though, are the only choice for signal shaping at high frequencies, and in particular, for analog delay equalizers.
The most important characteristic of such filters is often the group delay parameter that protects the integrity of the signals passing through them over the frequency band of interest.Dr. Narendra Rao will speak on this topic at the September 26 meeting of the Santa Clara Valley Solid State Circuits Society. He will lead us through the group delay characteristics of standard transfer functions that will be of interest to both analog and digital designers who want to better understand filter group delay characteristics.
Dr. Narendra Rao is a member of technical staff at Silicon Magnetic Systems, a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductors. His interests are in mixed-signal ICs and active filters. Dr. Rao received his B. Tech degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India, in 1974 and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Calgary, Canada in 1978 and 1980 respectively.
