EMBS Chapter

Past and Present
With more than one-fourth of its approximately 8,000 members residing
outside of the United States, the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and
Biology Society (EMBS) is the largest international society of
Biomedical Engineers in terms of the number of individual members.
EMBS has been serving the needs of Biomedical Engineers throughout
the world since the early 1950's and through its leadership is
striving to develop new ways to serve its members with workshops,
publications, and distinguished lecture series.

Field of Interest
The field of interest of the Society is the application of the concepts
and methods of the physical and engineering sciences in biology and
medicine. This covers a very broad spectrum ranging from formalized
mathematical theory through experimental science and technological
development to practical clinical applications. It includes support
of scientific, technological, and educational activities.
