| Abstract
|
Computer Tomography (CT) allows the study of inner parts of objects in a
non-invasive way. This seminar describes the application of CT in the
analysis of materials, the perspectives and limitation to such
techniques. Results in testing concrete column samples using a tomograph
of gamma rays will be shown. The image processing methods used to
segment the important parts of the samples will also be discussed.

| Biography
|
Antonio Martins was born in 1966 in the city of Sorocaba, Brasil. He
graduated in Physics at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in 1989.
He has a Master Degree in Experimental Nuclear Physics from the State
University of São Paulo. In 1997 he got his PhD in Electrical Engineering at
the State University of São Paulo under the supervision of Dr. Rangaraj
Rangayyan from the University of Calgary. He spent two periods as a research
associate at the University of Calgary, two months in 1996 and one month in
2001, when he has developed work in the areas of image processing and
sonification. From 1998 to 2004 he was the head of computer engineering
department at the Faculdade de Engenharia de Sorocaba (FACENS) where he had
several undergraduate students under his supervision. Since March 2004, he
has joined the State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP) as an
associated professor. His areas of interest are: texture image analysis,
nondestructive material analysis, high resolution satellite image analysis
and sonification.
