| Abstract
|
This siminar will focus on the developments of HVDC Transmission. Starting from a nostalgic look at the mercury arc rectifier, the seminar will present details of the applications of HVDC Transmission and project into the forthcoming applications in the far east at 800 kV. The presentator will also discuss his further research in this area at the UOIT using the simulation program EMTP RV.

| Biography
|
Dr Vijay K. Sood is a well known expert in the field of HVDC transmission, and spent 32 years at the Hydro Quebec Research Institute (IREQ) conducting research in this area. He is presently an Associate Professor at the UOIT in Oshawa, ON.
He is a Fellow of the IEEE, and Secretary of IEEE Canada. He has authored a book on HVDC Transmission and FACTS Controllers.
