IEEE Toronto 2005 Annual General Meeting and Awards Dinner
This annual event is an opportunity for IEEE Toronto Section members to
meet each other as well as the dedicated group of IEEE volunteers who
give of their time to plan, organize and execute the wide range of
programs offered within the Section and elsewhere in Canada. Invited
guests typically include volunteer leaders from neibouring Sections and
IEEE Canada. The Section Chair reports on the past year's activities and
presents a variety of awards and recognitions.

6:30 - Reception/Cash Bar
7:30 - Dinner
Guest Speaker: Richard Marceau, Provost of the University of
Ontario Institute of Technology, will speak on "UOIT - where we are today
and where we are headed within the next 5 years". Dr.
Marceau is a long time member of IEEE and was a very active volunteer as a
member of the IEEE Montreal Section. You can read Dr. Marceau's biography on

8:30 - Section Report and Election of Officers for 2006, 2007
The slate of officers being presented by the nominating committee is as follows:
- Chair: Alagan Anpalagan
- Vice Chair: Alex Bot
- Secretary-Treasurer: Pelle Westlind
The above nominees have indicated their willingness to serve if elected.
Any member in attendance may propose additional nominations from the floor.
9:00 - IEEE Toronto Section Awards
IEEE Canada President, Bill
Kennedy, will be presenting two Awards (from IEEE and IEEE Canada):
- IEEE Canada W.S. Read Outstanding Service Award to Miro Forest
- Sustaining Friend of IEEE Regional Activities Award to the University of Toronto
IEEE Toronto Chair, Kostas
Plataniotis, will be presenting Toronto Section and IEEE Canadian Foundation Awards:

- Dr. Richard Marceau, UOIT Provost, giving his presentation about the
current status and plans of this two-year old university
in Whitby, Ontario.
- 2004,05 Section Chair Kostas Plataniotis thanked our speaker, then presented
a brief Section report.
- Bob Hanna, Past Section Chair and Chair of the Nominations Committee,
announces that Alagan Anpalagan, Alex Bot,
and Pelle Westlind have been
elected as Section Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary-Treasurer, respectively
for 2006 and 2007.

- Bob Hanna presents a token of appreciation to outgoing Section Chair Kostas
Plataniotis.
- Bob Hanna thanks outgoing Section Treasurer Al Wallis for his many years
of service in that capacity.
- Wally Read, Newfoundland Section, presents the "W.S. Read Outstanding Service
Award" to Miro Forest. This is IEEE
Canada's highest award for service - the citation reads "For
significant and sustained leadership over two decades as
director and president of the IEEE Canadian Foundation and its
predecessor organization, IEEC Inc.".

- Bill Kennedy presents the "Sustaining Friend of IEEE Regional Activities
Award" to the University of Toronto.

- Bill Kennedy addresses the Section on the state of IEEE Canada as he prepares
to step down at the end of 2005 as
IEEE Canada President. (Bob Hanna is the incoming IEEE Canada President.)
- Kostas Plataniotis, Bob Hanna, and Bill Kennedy share some moments

Cost:
The (subsidized) ticket price for members of the Toronto Section (and a
companion) is $75 per person.
Note: any member of the Section who wishes to attend the Section business
and awards portion of the evening's activities but who prefers not to attend
the dinner may do so (at no cost).
