IEEE Toronto Section Executive Committee Biographies
The operation of the IEEE Toronto Section is managed by the Section Executive committee, whose members are elected or appointed every two years. On each of these pages, we introduce a member of the committee who volunteers his or her time and energy to deliver the services that the IEEE Toronto Section provides. On your behalf, we recognize their invaluable contributions.

Raymond Phan - IEEE Toronto Section Webmaster, IEEE Toronto Section Membership Development Secretary, and IEEE GOLD Toronto Section Affinity Group Secretary

Raymond (Ray) Phan is currently a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Ryerson University. He also received his Bachelor's of Engineering (B.Eng.) with honours standing in 2006 and his Masters of Applied Science (M.A.Sc.) in 2008 from the same department. His research interests are in multimedia content access, storage and retrieval, image segmentation, object recognition, computer vision, stereo vision and 3DTV. In 2004, Ray received the Wallas Khella Scholarship for Academic Excellence, and in 2005, he received a certificate for outstanding leadership for his work with the IEEE Student Branch, both from the IEEE Toronto Section. Aside from academics, Ray is an active member of the Ryerson community, and also is active with the IEEE. He is currently an awards committee member for the Ryerson Learning and Teaching Office (LTO) Teaching Excellence Awards, an appeals committee member for the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) at Ryerson, and is the President of the Ryerson Electrical & Computer Engineering: Graduate Student Association (ELCE-GSA). For IEEE involvement, he served as the 3rd year student representative in 2004 - 2005, the Vice-Chair Internal in 2005 - 2006, and is currently the Branch Coordinator for the IEEE Student Branch at Ryerson. Finally, he was the webmaster for IEEE Canada - Canadian Conference on Electrical & Computer Engineering (CCECE) 2008, the secretary for the IEEE Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) Toronto Section, the secretary for membership development with the IEEE Toronto Section, and is currently the webmaster for the IEEE Toronto Section (since October 2009).
