RECENT ACTIVITIES
Executive Summary
In 2007, R10 GOLD has focused on the improvement of the health
of all the regional GOLD affinity groups, continuation of
outreaching GOLD members by providing benefits and values of
their membership, and improvement in the students full
membership retention rate.
VISION FOR R10 GOLD

To increase value and worth of IEEE services and
programs to young professionals and recent graduates.

To promote and coordinate the establishment,
support, and sustainability of GOLD Affinity Groups.

To develop programs and foster relationships to
provide tangible value to members; Promote the GOLD program to
students; Recruit, develop and nurture volunteers.

GOLD activities are focused on GOLD members needs
in the fields, which are Technical career building, Soft-skills
training, and Networking/Mentoring etc.

Plan R10 GOLD activities for 2007

Improve the health of all the local GOLD Affinity
Groups

Increase the awareness of local GOLD activities by
R10 GOLD Website and creating a newsletter (together with WIE)

Increasing the value of being the GOLD members by
a web-based seminar and organizing local events
MAIN ACTIVITIES FOR 2007 – 2008
1. The graduation event pilot program
The RAB GOLD is
launching a pilot program on the Student Transition Project this
year. The main goal is to outreach the graduating students,
introduce them the GOLD and the benefits of becoming a full
member. First part of the project is to send out welcome letters
to graduating students. The second part is to organize a
Graduation Party for these students. R10 GOLD has selected three
GOLD affinity groups (Bangladesh, Lahore and Madras) to organize
the graduation event as a pilot section. There groups are
working with the Section Chair and Student Activities Chair, in
each section to organize the Graduation Party.
2.
The GOLD Academic Professional Portal Project
The Academic
Portal will be a great asset to IEEE young members by allowing
them to search jobs posted by academic institutions and also
find out information on PhD and other programs and scholarships.
In our region, 26 GOLD members who are nominated by their
section are working with the GOLD Academic Professional Portal (GAPP)
team.
3. GOLD Regional Leaders Summit 2008
In 2008, the
RAB GOLD will organize a GOLD summit of Regional Leader at the
IEEE Sections Congress in Canada. R10 GOLD has nominated Timothy
Wong (wongt09@student.uwa.edu.au) as the R10 GOLD Summit
Regional Leader. He has been on the Western Australia GOLD
committee since last year as student branch liaison (he chairs
the University of Western Australia SB).
4. The 2nd R10 GOLD Congress
The 2nd
R10 GOLD congress will be held in Chennai (Madras) India, in
January, 2008. It will be joint program of student/GOLD/WIE
Congress and GOLD will be the host group for the congress.
5. R10
GOLD Logo Design Competition
R10 GOLD is
planning to run a competition for members to submit design for
the Region 10 GOLD logo, with a prize of USD200. The involvement
of R10 members will provide a sense of ownership of the GOLD
program.
6. R10 GOLD Newsletter and a series of web-based seminars
(Current in the planning process)
