Minutes of IEEE Region 3 Excom -- 08 April 2000 Director Riddle called the Excom to order at 9:04pm. Agenda as published on the web was approved. Consent Agenda, as modified during Excom caucus, was approved. The items on the consent agenda were: a. EXCOM approved the minutes of its January 2000 meeting. b. The EXCOM received the reports listed on the Information Agenda. c. EXCOM approved the appointment of Area 9 Chair Wilfred A. Roberts. d. EXCOM approved the "Initial Region 3 Funding Plan for Sections Congress" as distributed. Treasurer Hickman presented the present status of the Region 3 Budget and reviewed how things stand relative to the plan. Ratcliff moved (Howard seconded) a motion that Region 3 purchase the proposed Newsgroup Server to support e-Conferencing Experiments. The motion passed. Dan Jackson moved and Jim Howard seconded a motion approving in principle the funding of 2001 Vice Chairs to one of the three Excom meetings. Chip Dawson proposed $350 expenditure of software to facilitate producing a web version of the newsletter from past issues of the newsletter. The Excom went on record as supporting the purchase of the software. New Business RSR Joey Duvall reported on plans for a global student conference in Region 8 in May. Region is willing to fund each attending student (outside R8) at $500 to attend the conference. She moved (Howard seconded) that the Region match R8 funding up to $500 per student for five students. The amount supplied by the region would be reduced by the amount obtained from the IEEE Foundation (if any). After a call for participants, five students (3 from UA, 2 from USF) wished to participate in the conference. Motion carried. Director Riddle asked Charles Lord to report on the arrangements for the next Excom. It will 20-22 October 2000 in Myrtle Beach SC. An e-conference Excom caucus will held prior to the face-to-face Excom meeting. Having completed its agenda and having no further business, Director Riddle adjourned the meeting at 9:42 pm.
