Virginia Council 2004 Q3 Report to Region 3 1. Officers and Sections Virginia Council Officers hold two year terms. Current officers are: Chair: David Geer, Virginia Mountain Section Vice-Chair: Adeeb Hamzey, Richmond Section Secretary: Bill Clayton, Hampton Roads Section Treasurer: Carlos Whaley, Central Virginia Section Council officer terms will expire at the end of this year. The Council represents four Virginia Sections from Region 3, and the Northern Virginia Section, from Region 2. We meet at least four times a year, twice by e-conference and twice face-to-face. We also meet at each Region 3 conference. Committees meet more often as needed. Detailed reports from the Sections and Council are available at the Council web site, https://www.ewh.ieee.org/r3/vc/. The Council enjoys good support from all Sections, thanks to the efforts of a core group of loyal members from throughout Virginia. 2. Accomplishments 2.1 SOUTHEASTON 2007 The Council is preparing a proposal to host SOUTHEASTCON 2007 in Richmond, VA. A steering committee has been formed, co-chaired by Adeeb Hamzey, Council Vice-Chair, and Sean Haynes, past Council Chair. Proposals have been received from three hotels in the Richmond area, local universities have been contacted, and committee chairs are being assigned. More information will be available at the Atlanta meeting. 2.2 JAMBOREE 2005 The National Scout Jamboree will be held in Caroline County, VA at Fort A. P. Hill from 25 July 2005 to 3 August 2005. The IEEE has sponsored either the Electronics or the Electricity Merit Badge Booths at the National Scout Jamboree Merit Badge Midway since 1981. The IEEE emeritbadges.org Project is sponsoring the Electronics Merit Badge Booth at the 2005 National Scout Jamboree next year. The project instructional material can be downloaded for use by global volunteers to support local technology education programs. Concerns 3.1 Open Committee Chairs The positions of Awards Chair and GOLD Chair for the Council are still open. Volunteers are actively being sought. 3.2 Membership Active membership for the four Virginia Sections has declined by 13% to 3085 from June to September, 2004.
