Memphis Section Report to the IEEE Region 3 Committee 10/8/04 This report is being written per the Region 3 guidelines in Courier (even though it doesn't look good). I hope everyone can read it. The Memphis Section is excited to be offering a much-more aggressive menu of activities for its members. Since the last Region 3 Committee meeting (and our summer break), the section and its society chapters have offered the following meetings: "Offshore Outsourcing and the U.S. Engineering Community" -- a live broadcast from IEEE-USA. This was a joint meeting with the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers and the Illuminating Engineering Society, along with representatives from the Engineers Club of Memphis. "High Definition Television is Here!" -- an in-studio presentation by the local PBS station regarding the HDTV technology, federal regulations, and potential uses. "Introduction to Transient Recovery Voltage (TRV) in Power Circuit Breakers Rated 72.5 kV and Below" -- a technical presentation and dinner presented by Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division. There also was a picnic sponsored by the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. Upcoming meetings will include one on "Building Your Own PC" -- a timely holiday topic. We are also still working on preparations for the 2006 SoutheastCon to be held in Memphis. It will be educational, productive, and fun! Respectfully submitted, Allan Long, Vice-Chair
